UCL Press is delighted to announce the publication of volume 30 of the London Journal of Canadian Studies- the first issue to be published by UCL Press.

Founded in 1984, the London Journal of Canadian Studies is an annual peer-reviewed journal that aims to reflect the diverse interests of Canadianists. Many leading UK Canadianists based at the University of London and UCL have been associated with it during its 30-year history. 

Each volume of the LJCS is officially published in November (although articles may appear on-line before then). Volumes of the LJCS are all themed issues, with each volume consisting of at least five refereed articles addressing a topic of interest to Canadians, Canadianists and anyone with a general interest in Canada.

The 2015 UCL Open Access Conference is two weeks away, and tickets are going fast. We have a limited number of tickets still available for this unique event; due to the level of interest, we predict that these will be fully assigned in the coming days.

Join us at UCL for an afternoon event to discuss the current Open Access publishing landscape, and the variety of publishing models that are emerging. The speakers represent different options for Open Access publishing:

• Dr Alma Swan, scholarly communications consultant and former Director of European Advocacy for SPARC, has undertaken major projects investigating Open Access and provides a Europe-wide perspective
• Dr Martin Paul Eve, senior lecturer in Literature, Technology and Publishing at Birkbeck, University of London, and a founder of the Open Library of Humanities, an Open Access journal platform funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
• Rosalind Pyne, Research and Development Manager for Open Research, Springer Nature Group, offers her views on how commercial publishers are supporting Open Access initiatives
• Lara Speicher, Publishing Manager, UCL Press, describes the motives behind setting up UCL Press, the first fully OA university press in the UK, and its plans for the future.

The event will be chaired by Professor Cheryl Thomas, Professor of Judicial Studies and Vice Dean (Research), UCL Faculty of Laws, who serves as Chair of the UCL Open Access Academic Advisory Group. It will be introduced by Dr Paul Ayris, Director of UCL Library Services and CEO of UCL Press.

We're delighted to be able to tell you the that the fifth UCL Press title has now been published. Translated by the multi-award winning Paul Vincent,Herman Gorter: Poems of 1890 A Selection is the first significant collection of Gorter’s key poems in English translation, covering key periods in his career. A bilingual Dutch/English layout allows for easy access to the original Dutch poem. The book will available online as a free open access version (availablehere) and in reasonably-priced print.
